Is Trauma Causing Isolation, Depression, and Anxiety?

Carrying trauma can feel extremely isolating. Trauma by definition is unbearable and intolerable. It can take tremendous effort to push unwanted memories from your mind while trying to navigate other aspects of your life. If not treated, trauma can cause depression, anxiety, and engaging in unhealthy coping mechanisms to numb the pain. I can help you move past trauma and the other conditions it can bring, allowing you to live the life you want.

My approach to trauma counselling utilizes Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) and Prolonged Exposure Therapy, along with other approaches to deal with, and overcome trauma.

What is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR)?

EMDR is a treatment that involves being mindful of past trauma while helping your brain find more effective ways to process thoughts and feelings, so that those traumas can become less painful. Bilateral stimulation of the brain through eye movements, stimulation, or sound, allows you to reprocess images and sounds and the thoughts and feelings they bring up. EMDR therapy can be part of a larger treatment strategy, or it can be used as a treatment all on its own.
